Junior Thesis Project: George Orwell's 1984

In 2013-2014, during my Junior year at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), we had to complete a thesis project.  The theme was "Beautiful Losers". A "Beautiful Loser" can be defined as someone who goes against societal thinking and is put down for it, such as Winston Smith in George Orwell's 1984.

At the end of the year there is the Junior Thesis Show. It is very selective, and my work was not only chosen, but it was placed in the main room.

George Orwell's 1984 follows the life of Winston Smith, who lives in a dystopian society known as "Oceania". Their leader is only known as "Big Brother", and no one knows for sure whether or not he exists. Winston is a curious person, in that he wants to understand the past, and whether or not life in the past was better than it is in the present. His curiosity is considered dangerous by his current government. Those that openly criticize or question the government are either put in jail, sent to a work camp, or worse.
